huwa alladhī akhraja alladhīna kafarū min ahli l-kitābi min diyārihim li-awwali l-ḥashri mā ẓanantum an yakhrujū waẓannū annahum māniʿatuhum ḥuṣūnuhum mina l-lahi fa-atāhumu l-lahu min ḥaythu lam yaḥtasibū waqadhafa fī qulūbihimu l-ruʿ'ba yukh'ribūna buyūtahum bi-aydīhim wa-aydī l-mu'minīna fa-iʿ'tabirū yāulī l-abṣār
He (is) the One Who expelled those who disbelieved from (the) People (of) the Scripture from their homes at (the) first gathering. Not you think that they would leave, and they thought that [they] would defend them their fortresses against Allah. But came to them Allah from where not they expected, and He cast into their hearts [the] terror, they destroyed their houses with their hands and the hands (of) the believers. So take a lesson, O those endowed (with) insight!

He it is who turned out of their homes, at the time of [their] first gathering [for war], such of the followers of earlier revelation as were bent on denying the truth. You did not think [O believers] that they would depart [without resistance] - just as they thought that their strongholds would protect them against God: but God came upon them in a manner which they had not expected, and cast terror into their hearts; [and thus] they destroyed their homes by their own hands as well as the hands of the believers. Learn a lesson, then, O you who are endowed with insight
He it is Who hath caused those of the People of the Scripture who disbelieved to go forth from their homes unto the first exile. Ye deemed not that they would go forth, while they deemed that their strongholds would protect them from Allah. But Allah reached them from a place whereof they recked not, and cast terror in their hearts so that they ruined their houses with their own hands and the hands of the believers. So learn a lesson, O ye who have eyes
It is He Who got out the Unbelievers among the People of the Book from their homes at the first gathering (of the forces). Little did ye think that they would get out: And they thought that their fortresses would defend them from Allah! But the (Wrath of) Allah came to them from quarters from which they little expected (it), and cast terror into their hearts, so that they destroyed their dwellings by their own hands and the hands of the Believers, take warning, then, O ye with eyes (to see)

He is the One Who turned those People of the Book who disbelieved, out of their homes in the first banishment. You (all) did not think that they would leave, while they thought that their strongholds would keep God away from them. Yet God came at them from where they did not anticipate it and cast such panic into their hearts, that they tore their houses down with their own hands as well as through believers´ hands: so learn a lesson, you who have any insight!

It is He who expelled those who were kafir among the People of the Book from their homes to the first gathering-place.* You did not think that they would leave and they thought that their fortresses would protect them from Allah. Then Allah came upon them from where they least expected it and cast terror into their hearts. Their houses were pulled down by their own hands and by the hands of the muminun. People of insight, take note!
He it is Who drove out those who disbelieve from among the People of the Book from their (fortified) homes as the first instance of gathering (them for punishment and banishing from the heartland of Islam). You did not think that they would go forth (so easily), just as they thought that their strongholds would protect them against God. But (the will of) God came upon them from where they had not reckoned (it could come): He cast dread into their hearts. They were thinking that their show of force will bring them the victory; however, God’s force came from where they did not expect and put such a terror in their hearts that they themselves destroyed their own houses. Al-muntakhab fi tafsir al-Qur'an al-Karim
It is He Who drove those who denied Him among Ahl AL-Kitab (the People of the Book) out of their homes at the beginning of the thronging for the battle. You yourselves, O Muslims, did not think they would go out of their fortresses nor did they themselves think that their fortresses were penetrable to any hostile action, not to mention that contemptible notion of being proof against Allah. But Allah reduced them to impotence in His own manner which they never expected and He inspired terror in their hearts so that as they had tried to ruin the whole tower of Faith, they perfected their own ruin. They demolished their own homes and reduced their own property into a useless from by their own hands and the hands of the believers. So take heed you people of sight and can lift to Allah their inward sight
He it is Who caused the driving out of those who did not believe from among the owners of the book, from their houses at the first gathering for exile. You did not expect that they will go out while they expected that their fortresses would defend them against Allah, but Allah came to them (to punish them) from a place which they could not (even) imagine, and He cast terror into their hearts so that their houses were ruined with their own hands and the hands of the believers, so learn a lesson O you who have insight !
